BROOKVALE OVAL

CHALLENGE

Brookvale Oval is a sporting ground located within Brookvale Park at Brookvale, New South Wales.  The ground is owned by Warringah Council and has an approximate capacity of 23,000 people. Brookvale oval is the home ground for the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles.

In November 2010 Murphy’s Group Services issued a request for services in the design and construction of a solar electric system on the new grandstand roof.   The main outcomes for the project were:

  • Demonstrate energy sustainability practices to the wider community.
  • Provide educational outcomes for stakeholders and the wider community
  • Build photovoltaic systems that can maximise energy yields and greenhouse emissions at the sites through best practice design techniques.
  • Install and commission the system as designed utilising components and work methodologies that result in optimal safety and system output both at the time of installation and well into the future
  • Demonstrate value for money from the funding allocated

 SOLUTION

Solgen Energy sought to create certainty around Council’s vision through delivery of a robust design and a clear delivery program. Underpinning the program for works was Solgen Energy’s ability to deploy its own personnel directly to siteand utilizing in house design expertise to overcome the design constraints set by planning controls.

The 22.44kW system installed on the new grandstand roof comprised 102 SCHOTT solar 220W panels raked (pitched) to approximately 20 degrees tilt to the north in conjunction with 2 SMA SMC11000TL-10 inverters.  The maximum height of the array was set by the council’s development approval.  The Uni Rac framing system deployed was designed to match the imposed height control.

Solgen Energy took responsibility for the entire process in delivering and installing the solar electric system, covering system design, relevant permits, procurement, site safety analysis, installation and commissioning, training and ongoing support.

BENEFITS

The system not only improves energy efficiency, reduces energy consumption and operating costs, but establishes Warringah Council as a leader in climate change action. The benefits of the installation include:

  • Generate approximately 38 Megawatt hours of electricity per annum
  • Prevent about 41 tonnes of greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere each year.
  • Address climate change and raise awareness of renewable energy in the community

TESTIMONIAL

“Solgen Energy made the fitting of the solar power system simple and allowed us to outsource the entire operation from system design to installation. With Solgen, we are confident we can provide our customers with a market leading solar power generation capability which will augment our core roofing and building businesses.”
