Caring Locally and Acting Globally
CHALLENGE
Caring for one another and for the environment, at a local and global level, are very much a part of Nowra Christian School's philosophy and approach.
An intimate school of just 411 students, ranging from Kindergarten to Year 12, and located on eight, lush semi-rural hectares, Nowra Christian School has a real sense of belonging to the community and the broader global environment. The co-educational school is committed to remaining a size that allows every student to have the opportunity to know, and be known by, a significant proportion of the school community. However, while staying small, the school is thinking big.
The school takes a long-term and unified approach to all its endeavours, including tackling environment issues that can help reduce its own carbon footprint.
SOLUTION
Nowra Christian School obtained a $50,000 funding grant available through the National Solar Schools Program. Appointed by the school to manage their energy efficiency solution, Solgen Energy worked to minimise disruption to the school and had the 30 solar panels installed on the roof of the High School building over one weekend.
Today, the solar project continues to enthuse the school, given the system's ability to record and monitor all green data, and serve as an educational resource.
BENEFITS
Solgen Energy's solar solution supports Nowra Christian School's ethos of nurturing and educating its students through positive environmental initiatives.
In addition, the solar energy system provides the school with ongoing benefits including:
- the annual generation of approximately 8 Megawatt hours of electricity
- the annual prevention of about 7.5 tonnes of greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere
- raising awareness of renewable energy in the local community and addressing global climate change
TESTIMONIAL
"In our experience, we found Solgen Energy an excellent company to deal with, both with their program and in their approach. They were helpful, attentive and co-operative."
